Adoption Options

Did you know that there's another option besides using an adoption agency? The question I'm asked most from those trying to adopt is what agency we used to adopt our sweet Mia. But that's the thing, we didn't! There is another option! And it may be a better option for you.

When we first started this process, all we knew was that we needed to contact an adoption agency to get things rolling. We didn't know of anything else. We thought that was the only way to go! Lucky for us, we met and became friends with a couple who were also starting the adoption process. They are the ones who told us about adoption attorneys! Forever grateful for these friends!

The main difference between using an agency and an attorney is the work. With an adoption attorney, you are responsible for getting your story and your names out there. I hate to call it advertising but that's pretty much what you have to do to get as much exposure as possible. You want that special birth mom/dad to find you easily! You can do this by joining adoption.com or similar sites, creating an adoption page on Facebook, etc. You also want to encourage your family and friends to share these pages/links as often as possible. And once you are contacted by a birth mom/dad and she/he chooses you to be the adoptive parents (HOORAYYYYY), you then contact an adoption attorney who will assist you on making the adoption legal and educating you on the remaining process. There's so much to figure out with adoption laws and since each state have differing laws, your adoption attorney will be your person!

The adoption world can get so frustrating and confusing but don't give up! You have options, you have help, and you have people cheering you on! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. I will go into more detail with each new post! Hope I've been at least somewhat helpful..
